Why Cambridge English?
You are here:
An English teacher from Ukraine drew inspiration from buses, for a classroom activity that landed her an award from Cambridge English.
Olesya Hudymenko from Kirovograd in Ukraine won the Cambridge English Schools competition 2017. She impressed the judges by asking her students to create a poster that illustrated what learning English meant to their future. Students were asked to pretend they were passengers on a bus and when the teacher or ‘bus driver’ called their ticket number, they had to illustrate what English meant to them.
Cambridge English Marketing Strategy Manager Mariana Calderon said:
‘Lots of research points towards the importance of having fun when learning which is why Olesya’s approach really stood out from the crowd. We were impressed with her creativity and the final poster was an excellent concept and design. I’m sure the students really enjoyed the activity which would have had a huge impact on their motivation.’
Other creative approaches in the classroom she uses includes introducing students to QR codes, games, puzzles and social networks. She also uses Cambridge English practice tests in the classroom.
Olesya beat more 120 hopefuls who went in for this year’s competition. She has been awarded a two-week teaching course at Bell Teacher campus, Cambridge.
