Cambridge Assessment English took part in a debate hosted by Cambridge Assessment on the ways in which technology might transform education and assessment.
Speaking at the ‘Schools in the Cloud’ event, Dr Nick Saville, Director of Research & Validation at Cambridge Assessment English, explained why the teaching of English language requires a joined-up approach which combines technology with face-to-face learning. The event in February brought together more than 100 delegates in London, with many more participating from around the world through online streaming.
Presentations looked at how self-organised learning environments such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and 'schools in the cloud' are attracting a growing level of support. Sugata Mitra, Professor of Educational Technology at the University of Newcastle, explained the theories behind his TED prize-winning idea ‘schools in the cloud’, an experiment that will allow groups of children to teach themselves using the internet. Lord David Puttnam CBE described how technology enables him to deliver modules to university students across the world, live from his home in Ireland.
