Cambridge English qualifications, including Cambridge English: First, Advanced and IELTS, have been officially recognised by the Czech Republic Ministry of Education. Students holding one of the recognised qualifications are now entitled to an exemption from the country’s secondary school leaving exam (the Maturita Exam) at some schools in the country.
Under the agreement signed at the end of last year, the Czech Government now allows secondary schools to replace the optional English language Maturita exam with a Cambridge English qualification set at Level B1 (or above) on the Common European Framework of Reference. The exemption applies to around 10% of schools. The full list can be found on the Ministry of Education website.
The Czech Ministry is the latest Ministry to use Cambridge English qualifications to raise the standards of English language tuition within a state secondary school system. The Ministries of Education in Moldova, Romania and Lithuania already offer exemptions to Cambridge English certificate holders.
