English assessment, teaching, and learning impact on learners, teachers, and society
Cambridge University Press and Assessment offers a comprehensive range of exams and learning resources for learners and teachers of English, together with research and consultancy services.
Our work is rigorously designed to improve the lives of learners and teachers, and to support the tens of thousands of organisations we work with all over the world. In this way, we play a key role in helping to deliver the mission of the University of Cambridge which is: to contribute to society through the pursuit of education, learning and research at the highest international levels of excellence.
Creating a positive impact
Impact by Design is a model we use to ensure that all our products have a positive impact. Getting this right is essential because well-designed English assessment and learning resources help to improve the lives of learners and teachers all over the world.
To deliver these benefits for learners and teachers, we design English products with their intended impact in mind from the very start of the process and monitor them on an ongoing basis.
The Impact by Design approach is not just about developing new products and services: it can also be applied to existing products. By carrying out research we can revise existing products, so they have a greater positive impact on learners in the future. The Impact by Design model is set out in the English Impact Framework, and it underpins everything we do at Cambridge University Press and Assessment.
The role of impact studies
Impact studies are pieces of in-depth research we carry out to measure impact in specific contexts. Our experts approach them by gathering, analysing, and reporting on detailed data on learning, teaching, and assessment products. Our impact studies consistently show that our assessments and learning products engage and motivate learners, which in turn creates positive impact.
