English learners can now take Linguaskill with English Testing Canada

14/12/2020

People learning English can now take a hi-tech online English language test from the comfort of their own homes through English Testing Canada (ETC). This English centre has begun offering Linguaskill, which is developed by Cambridge Assessment English.

Linguaskill is a cutting-edge online test that uses the latest technologies including Artificial Intelligence to give fast and accurate English levels of individuals and groups of candidates. ETC will offer the test with a third party remote proctored service, which means it can be taken by international candidates at home. Georgia Wilder, Director of ETC, has been in the English language learning industry for over twenty years. She explains their decision to start offering the test.

‘We’re increasingly finding there is a need in the market for authentic skills that are fit for purpose and Linguaskill seemed like a great way to diversify what we can offer,’ explains Georgia. She continues: ‘We are very happy to have another Cambridge test on board as our students really value the affiliation to Cambridge. We’ve decided to offer Linguaskill largely through an AI proctoring service, which makes it a convenient option during the pandemic.’

English Testing Canada, who are based in Toronto, have been around for eight years and offer a range of English language tests and preparation. They will offer Linguaskill to anyone who needs to prove their English language ability for a job or academic placement. Georgia Wilder says the test is already seeing a big demand.

‘Companies are looking for new ways of testing English skills, and Linguaskill is established and offers a convenient solution,’ explains Georgia. She continues: ‘We have also had a lot of interest from education institutions in Canada. These are colleges and universities that offer degrees and diplomas and often have bridging programs for international students, so they’re looking for a reliable test for placement, progress and access.’
