A game that’s helping hundreds of thousands of children to learn English in Minecraft has been shortlisted for a global education award. English Adventures with Cambridge, which was developed by experts at Cambridge Assessment English, has already clocked up more than 300,000 plays in 170 countries.
The game has been shortlisted for the K12 Award at this year's Reimagine Awards, which are the largest awards programme for educational innovators around the world. Students playing English Adventures with Cambridge get to meet memorable characters in a Minecraft setting and have to use their English language skills to play activities and solve puzzles. English Adventures with Cambridge is aimed at children aged 7 and above who are at A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The game can also be used to help children prepare for the popular Cambridge English Young Learners tests.
Belinda Cerdá, Head of Digital Partnerships at Cambridge Assessment English, said:
‘We’re delighted that English Adventures with Cambridge has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award from a programme that is open to innovators from across the education industry. There are lots of learning games in the market, but we wanted to create something that truly enabled deeper learning and engagement to motivate and inspire children of all ages. We’ve done this by combining the power and global appeal of Minecraft with Cambridge expertise in language learning. We’ve already seen hundreds of thousands of children around the world play the game and benefit from what is an immersive English language experience. We’re so proud of our team for this achievement!’
