More than 1000 students take part in virtual ‘chat’ about BMAT

21/07/2020

More than 1000 potential healthcare students took part in a virtual live chat to find out more about how the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) can help them get a place on medical, dental and other healthcare related degrees.

BMAT tests individuals’ ability to apply scientific and mathematical knowledge, as well as problem solving, critical thinking and written communication skills. The event was organised by the people behind the test at Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing.

It was a chance for students to ask a panel of experts from Cambridge anything about the test and how it is used as part of the selection process at universities around the world. The panel also presented an overview of the test and highlighted the free support materials available. It was an ideal event for students preparing for the November session of the test.

Paul Crump, from Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing, who was on the expert panel said:

‘BMAT is a great way for students to show they have the potential to succeed on demanding healthcare courses. It gives universities a single piece of information about all applicants, regardless of their backgrounds. Applicants come from all over the world, and they bring with them different qualifications and experiences. BMAT provides a really useful single point of reference for universities making crucial decisions that are fair and it’s fast becoming an essential tool in the student recruitment sector.’

Also taking part in the panel was Arpit Grover who is a third-year dentistry student at the University of Leeds. He took BMAT in 2016 and was able to offer potential students some first-hand knowledge of what to expect when approaching the test.
