New horizons for English in Madhya Pradesh Universities

21/08/2019

Bhopal: Cambridge Assessment English, a department of the University of Cambridge has signed an MoU with Higher Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. In addition, Cambridge Assessment English has signed another MoU with many private universities in Madhya Pradesh. The aim of these two MoU is to enhance the employability of the students by developing English language skills.

Cambridge Assessment English provides qualifications and tests for more than five million people a year, in over 130 countries.

The state higher education department and 32 private universities across Madhya Pradesh will work closely with Cambridge Assessment English to improve the teaching of English and to offer their students internationally recognised English language qualifications. Representatives of the Higher Education Department of Madhya Pradesh and the Madhya Pradesh Private University Regulatory Commission (MPPURC) signed Memoranda of Understanding with Cambridge Assessment English on 16 July in Bhopal.

Under the agreements, Cambridge will offer a package of training for faculty, curriculum support and digital learning resources. Universities will be able to offer their students a range of tests and internationally recognised Cambridge English Qualifications, particularly the internationally recognised BEC Business English Certificates.

Liam Vint, Deputy Director Global Network, from Cambridge Assessment English explained “We are delighted that universities in Madhya Pradesh are taking steps to implement international standards of English. English language skills are key to graduate employability. Students need to be able to communicate effectively on a global level, communicating confidently and effectively in spoken and written English. By incorporating Cambridge Assessment English into their English language programmes, universities can ensure that their students develop effective language skills that prepare them for employment and further study, both in India and worldwide. All of our tests and qualifications are closely linked to the Common European Framework of Reference, known as the CEFR, which is the global standard for language assessment.”
