Cambridge Assessment English has trialed a new staff development initiative which gives employees the opportunity to identify and improve their intercultural skills, and share their own experiences of living and working in different countries. The workshop explored the participants’ own cultural values and experiences and compared them to other cultures.
The initiative, which was road-tested on a small but diverse group of employees at Cambridge Assessment English, is the brainchild of Yasmin Hanspall who works in the Customer Service team. Before joining Cambridge Assessment English Yasmin lived and worked in Belgium, Peru and Spain and taught English for seven years.
She says:
‘We’re a really diverse organisation that operates all over the world and it seemed a shame not to pool this knowledge and help us develop our own intercultural competence. It was a really successful workshop and I’m sure the stories shared will help us to continue to operate successfully all over the world.’
Cambridge Assessment English operates in more than 130 countries around the world where people rely on the Cambridge English exams as proof of English language ability.
