Universities in the UK are updating their entry requirements on their websites to include Cambridge English Scale scores when recruiting international students.
The Universities of Oxford, Bristol, York and the London School of Economics will begin using the new scale for student recruitment from 2015. The Cambridge English Scale will introduce a single scale for reporting results across the Cambridge English exams. It builds on the way Cambridge English currently reports results and candidates will receive a scale score for their overall performance and for the four language skills and Use of English.
Ron Zeronis, Assistant Director at Cambridge English, says the scale has been launched to make Cambridge English exam results easier to understand.
‘The need for clear results information has been the driving force behind the Cambridge English Scale and it’s great to see such a positive response so far from UK universities. The new way of reporting results will bring huge benefits to admissions staff at universities as it gives them a much clearer picture of candidates’ performance and how it compares to other Cambridge English exams and international standards.’
The Cambridge English Scale will be launched for Cambridge English: First, First for Schools, Advanced and Proficiency in January and phased in for other Cambridge English exam during 2015. Cambridge English has also just developed a conversion tool which shows how a CEFR level, IELTS band score or the results of a Cambridge English exam taken before 2015 compare to scores on the new Cambridge English Scale.
