UK universities face tough challenges when recruiting overseas students and are having to work harder to retain the UK’s position as a leading study destination, says an expert from a department of Cambridge University.
Speaking in the run up to a seminar in London on international student admissions, Blandine Bastie, Regional Manager for UK and Ireland at Cambridge Assessment English, said: ‘The new global Higher Education landscape means that UK universities need to not only compete with one another for students, but also now with other Higher Education destination markets. We feel an open, collaborative approach is the best way to address the changes to the market place for mutual benefit.’
Cambridge English is hosting a one-day seminar in London for International Admissions Managers and International Officers about these challenges. The seminar, which is already fully booked, will bring together leading experts from the UK Higher Education Sector to provide topical information as well as a forum for discussion.
The seminar will include a range of presentations from expert speakers, including an update from UKVI about the recent changes to Tier 4 policy. Tania Lima, Programme Director for Science without Borders at the UK HE International Unit, is the keynote speaker and the event will be chaired by Tim Buttress, Head of Stakeholder Management Group at UK NARIC. Other expert speakers will include the University of Nottingham, Hobsons, UCAS and Study Portals.
Subjects covered by the presentations include:
- recent changes in immigration policy
- influencing student decisions
- the growing foundation programme market
- English language requirements and security
- case studies from Latin America.
Blandine Bastie said: ‘We are excited to host this event and welcome some of the leading experts in international student recruitment in the UK. We look forward to an informative event with much interesting discussion.’
