Preparing learners for the 21st century

Title: Preparing learners for the 21st century

Overview:

In this webinar, we will discuss the skills that teenage and young adult learners need to prepare effectively for working in the 21st century.

We will consider the importance of a critical and reflective approach to learning, and look at how information literacy, effective communication and a collaborative approach have become key skills in both education and the workplace. We will look at how and why teachers should embed these skills into their English language classrooms with a specific focus on relevant CEFR descriptors and test preparation.

Presenters:

John McMahon

John McMahon has worked in ELT, teaching and training for 40 years in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Australasia.

He is a tutor and assessor for CELTA and Delta and has led courses in methodology and language development for teachers from more than 30 different countries. His particular areas of interest include CLIL and the use of classroom language as a resource for learning. He has worked as a consultant on MA programmes in the UK and for Cambridge International Exams, as well as delivering training courses for Oxford University Press.

Paul Crump

Paul Crump currently oversees the production of assessments and learning materials for the Admissions Testing Service. Paul draws on an MSc. in Philosophy from Edinburgh University, along with an MA in Applied Linguistics from Anglia Ruskin University, and a varied teaching background in the Czech Republic, Austria and the UK.

Before joining ATS in May 2014, Paul spent six years working on a variety of Cambridge English language tests, including the development of bespoke assessments and learning materials for clients including the Egyptian and Malaysian ministries of education.
