Register for an exam

How to register for your exam

There are three steps to register for your Cambridge English exam:

2. Find an exam centre

To take your Cambridge English exam, you will need to register directly with an authorised exam centre. We have more than 2,800 centres in over 130 countries.

Our exam centres will give you more information about Cambridge English exams, how much they cost and how you can prepare for your exam. Use our online search to find a centre near you.

3. Book your exam

Once you have found a local exam centre you will need to book your exam with them. Exam dates are available throughout the year and you can choose whether you take your exam on a computer or on paper.


If you want to use a test result as part of your application for a UK visa you must take the test at a centre which is approved to offer Secure English Language Tests (SELTs). For a list of these centres and for more information visit Cambridge English exams for UK visas, work and study.

How much does an exam cost?

The cost of entering for a Cambridge English exam depends on which exam you take and where you take it. Please contact your chosen exam centre for further information.

Exam dates

Once you’ve chosen the exam you want to take, go the webpage of the exam and click on 'exam dates'.

Please note that not all centres will offer all of the dates shown. You should contact your centre to find out which dates they offer.

Is there any age limit for taking Cambridge English exams?

Candidates of any age are welcome to take our exams.

We have a range of exams that have been specifically designed for school-aged learners:

  • Cambridge English: Young Learners
  • Cambridge English: Key for Schools
  • Cambridge English: Preliminary for Schools
  • Cambridge English: First for Schools

There is no exam centre in my country – what can I do?

You can only take Cambridge English exams through an authorised test centre so you will need to find a centre in a nearby country. Use our online search to find a centre near you.

I have a specific physical or learning difficulty. Can I take a Cambridge English exam?

Yes, we have a number of ways to help people taking our exams who have special requirements. You should ask your centre to make a Special Requirements application. Find out more information on special requirements.

I need to take a Level A1/B1 Speaking and Listening test to meet UK Visas and Immigration’s requirements for my visa application. Do you offer an A1/B1 test?

A new IELTS Life Skills test has been introduced for people who need to prove their Speaking and Listening skills at Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels A1 or B1 to meet UK Visa and Immigration’s requirements for:

  • 'family of a settled person’ visa
    For people who want to remain with a relative, spouse or partner already living in the UK permanently
  • indefinite leave to remain
    For those already living in the UK and want to make it their permanent home
  • citizenship
    For those who want to become a British citizen.
