Francesca Woodward, Global Managing Director for English at Cambridge University Press & Assessment said, “We’re delighted and incredibly proud to see our Cambridge English Qualifications Digital for young learners recognised in this way. Our tests are designed to be fun and engaging and help young learners around the world build their confidence. Young learners can see their own progress and have a sense of achievement throughout the test, which helps them to perform their very best. When we launched the digital tests in 2025 we wanted to create an experience that reflected our young candidates’ everyday lives and we’ve achieved something really impactful. Being highly commended at the 2026 International e-Assessment Awards reflects not only our innovation in digital assessment, but the dedication, collaboration and world-class expertise from our teams who helped bring this to life.”
Cambridge English Qualifications Digital for young learners were launched in February 2025. The digital test begins with each child creating their own avatar, which they customise with rewards after every task. This encourages children to take an English language journey through fantasy worlds including underwater and dinosaur-themed islands, nurturing a positive mindset towards learning and assessment.
Pre A1 Starters Digital and A1 Movers Digital were developed following a rigorous programme of research with parents, students, teachers and exam centres around the world. This included pre-testing with 3,500 candidates in 90 exam centres across 28 countries. This in-depth approach ensures the test experience is engaging, motivating and fair, while building a solid language foundation for young learners to work towards achieving higher-level Cambridge English Qualifications including B2 First for Schools and C1 Advanced by the time they graduate from school.
Looking ahead, the team in Cambridge is gearing up for an anniversary celebration of three decades of young learner exams in 2027 and continues to expand its digital qualifications portfolio.
The upcoming launch of A2 Flyers Digital in 2027 will complete the full suite of Cambridge English Qualifications Digital for young learners.
