What is this webinar about?

Planning a language lesson typically involves identifying a linguistic aim (a ‘teaching point’) and organising a sequence of activities to achieve this outcome. But how realistic is this? Do learners really learn what we set out to teach? And does this approach accommodate the diversity of needs and abilities typical of every classroom? In this webinar we will suggest ways that planning can maximise learning opportunities, rather than limit them. The session is designed for teachers working with learners of all levels and ages.

Scott Thornbury

Scott Thornbury has taught and trained in Egypt, UK, Spain, and in his native New Zealand. Until recently, he taught on the online MA TESOL program for The New School in New York. His writing credits include several award-winning books for teachers on language and methodology, including About Language (Cambridge). His latest books are 30 Language Teaching Methods, 101 Grammar Questions, and 66 Essentials of Lesson Design (all Cambridge). He is also the editor for the Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers series.
