Students worldwide take IMAT to enter medical schools in Italy

25/09/2020

More than 7800 students took IMAT (International Medical Admissions Test) to access medical courses taught in English language in Italy. The session took place simultaneously in 30 cities across the globe on the 10 September 2020.

Italian medical schools are highly regarded and as a result an increasing number of international students apply to study at an Italian institution. Italian and international students can choose to study medical science in English language at Italian universities.

IMAT is the result of a joined collaboration between Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing and the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR). This test helps with the internationalisation of Italian universities that wish to attract talented students from abroad, but also to give local students the opportunity to study in English so they can broaden their working opportunities both nationally and abroad.

Nick Beer Country Director of Italy said:
“In spite of the Covid-19 crisis, attendance has been very good and numbers actually increased in Italy. Alongside the Ministry of Education, University and Research we have worked hard to make sure that the IMAT session could happen with all the security measures in place. Thanks to this joined effort we helped students continue their path in education.”

IMAT is a 100 minute subject-specific admissions test in English for applicants to medicine and surgery and dentistry courses. It covers logical reasoning and general knowledge, scientific knowledge (biology, chemistry, physics and maths). Students need English language at level B2 or higher of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

IMAT test was taken by over 7800 students this year. Outside Italy, students took the test in Europe (Hamburg, Athens, London, Madrid, Munich, Nicosia, Paris, Warsaw and Zürich), Asia (Dubai, Hong Kong, Lahore, Istanbul, Beijing and New Delhi), Africa (Johannesburg), and North and South America (New York, São Paulo and Toronto).
