Cambridge aims to arm ESL teachers with the skills and information they need to successfully follow Integrated Learning and Assessment (ILA) approaches - a proven English teaching method that gets results.
Cambridge University Press & Assessment has released a new free course to encourage English teachers around the world to take an integrated approach to learning and assessment. Cambridge experts say that decades of research have shown that a systematic approach to ILA helps to improve learner success.
The ILA approach centres on regular classroom assessment touchpoints which are fully integrated into the English learning process. ILA combines teaching, learning and assessment methods to plan, measure and improve outcomes for learners.
Through engaging video, audio and interactive activities, the free, online course outlines how ILA approaches can transform teaching and boost learning outcomes. The content includes ready to use resources and strategies that can be used straight away in the classroom. The course comes with a completion certificate and accompanying digital badge.
Francesca Woodward, Global Managing Director, English at Cambridge University Press & Assessment said:
“We know that successful teachers take an integrated approach to learning and assessment. We’ve launched a new course which aims to arm educators with the skills needed to successfully implement ILA approaches. I t is ideal for anyone new to ILA and can also be used as a refresher for experienced teachers too. It’s packed with strategies that can help teachers get up and running in the classroom.”
The ILA approach in the English classroom continues to be popular with teachers around the world.
Anna Barberi, an English Teacher at Liceo Boggio Lera in Catania, said: “Integrating learning and assessment means better results, better learning and better teaching.”
The free course, hosted on the Cambridge One learning platform, is part of a wider range of support materials from Cambridge on ILA. In addition to the course, Cambridge is also offering a range of other free materials to bolster teacher support around ILA, including webinars and idea packs. These materials can be accessed immediately and are available to everyone. This includes Cambridge’s research paper on ILA, ‘Getting the most out of every moment in learning’, which outlines the power of ILA, how it works, and the research behind the benefits.
