A group of English teachers from the Ural Federal University (UFU) in Ekaterinburg, Russia have just completed a newly developed two-week teacher development course devised by a department of Cambridge University.
Developed by the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations (Cambridge ESOL), the course took place in part of Girton College Cambridge and covered a range of areas including lesson planning and teacher appraisal, teaching mixed ability classes, course design, skills development and assessment.
Course participants, from different faculties at the UFU also had the chance to learn more about Cambridge with visits to the University library as well as the Cambridge ESOL offices. Andy Chamberlain, Regional Manager for Central and Eastern Europe at Cambridge ESOL said:
“We are very excited to be working with Ural Federal University. The key to raising English language standards is through good quality teaching and this has been the driving force behind the course development. Well done to all the teachers who took part.”
The course is the latest in a series of collaborative English language teaching and learning projects between Cambridge ESOL and UFU which began in summer 2011. This has included Cambridge ESOL carrying out benchmarking projects for students and teachers at the UFU and more developments are in the pipeline.
