The medical faculty of a university in Rome will start using the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) to help them select students for a Master’s course taught in English.
The Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma is the first private university in Italy to use BMAT. The test will be used for recruiting students onto the Master’s Degree Program in Medicine and Surgery, a six year degree programme taught entirely in English.
Professor Giorgio Minotti, Dean of the Departmental Faculty of Medicine and Surgery said:
‘BMAT is a trustworthy and rigorous certification that provides a reliable benchmark for comparing international candidates. It also allows our University to join a valuable network which gives candidates an extra chance to study Medicine without the added stress of preparing for a different admission test.’
BMAT was developed by Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing, part of the University of Cambridge. It is used by universities around the world to select applicants for Medical, Dental and Biomedical courses. It tests key skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and application of scientific knowledge that are crucial for success on an academically demanding, science-based degree.
Andy Chamberlain, Head of Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing, explains:
‘The Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma is the latest in a string of universities around the world to start using BMAT as part of their admissions process. This is really encouraging as it will help them to ensure a fair selection and also differentiate between applicants who are very strong on paper and have similar qualifications. I’m sure the test will not only help the admissions staff at the university, but it will also be a big boost to the next generation of medical students coming out of Italy.’
BMAT was established in 2003 and was originally used by three universities in the UK. It’s now used by more than 30 universities, in 11 countries including Malaysia, the Netherlands, Poland and Thailand.
