Important information

CELT-S will be retiring on 31 October 2023. We are no longer accepting new courses and entries.

However, we will continue to provide support for the course until 31 July 2023.*

If you are looking to offer or take an alternative course for secondary teachers, we have our Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) qualifications. TKT is designed for new and experienced teachers who want to develop and prove their teaching skills with an internationally recognised certificate. We provide courses and materials to help you prepare for the TKT Modules.

We also offer online teacher development courses, which can be taken as self-study and include many of the topics covered in CELT-P.

*Support for China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan will be available until 31 October 2023.

The process below describes the main steps when setting up a CELT-S course for the first time. After that, new courses can usually start at step 3.

Running a CELT-S course

  1. 1

    Pre-course preparation

Includes the initial enquiry, information gathering, signing an agreement with Cambridge English and selecting a Local Course Administrator. This step can take up to two months.

  2. 2

    Trainer training

Includes the nomination of trainers, and their training. This step can take up to two months.

  3. 3

    Course set up

In this phase you recruit course candidates, and confirm they meet the minimum requirements. This can take up to three weeks.

  4. 4

    The course

This phase covers the delivery of the course - online and face-to-face training, and assessment. Courses usually run over six to nine months.

  5. 5

    Post course

In this phase, you submit all the end-of-course documentation for final moderation.

  6.

You can arrange a course schedule that meets the needs of your institution and your teachers. We've created an example schedule for a 9-month CELT-S course.
