Linguaskill helps students to prove their English communication skills to future employers

Kozminski University used Linguaskill to assess their students’ business English proficiency from home, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Students who selected Linguaskill for their final English test received an exemption from the university compulsory English test. With their results, students could prove their language skills to their future employers and enhance their CVs with an internationally recognised test.

A perfect online solution to assess students’ level of English from home

Kozminski University aims to provide modern and creative teaching and learning solutions to their community of 9,000 students, who are offered a broad range of education programmes. One of the main areas of focus is their commitment to keep transforming digitally and to continue implementing technological innovations supporting modern teaching processes.

Kozminski University promotes digital transformation. Linguaskill Business with online proctoring, therefore, fits our vision and is a perfect solution to assess our students’ business English proficiency and to enhance their CVs with an internationally recognised test.

Dr Aleksandra Łuczak
Language Centre Director

Kozminski University provides numerous international mobility opportunities for students, such as the opportunity to participate in various double degree and exchange programmes. Additionally, students have the option to attend courses and workshops with academics, who also teach at prestigious higher education institutions all around the world, such as Harvard, MIT and ESCP Business School – the strategic partner of the university.

Testing students’ business English skills

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the university needed to assess their students’ business English proficiency levels from home. As Linguaskill can be invigilated and administered online it was a perfect solution. By adopting Linguaskill, the university was able to run the final English exam online, when travelling and organising offline exams were very limited. The university chose to use the Business module, which tests English used in a business environment. Students were given the option to register to take Linguaskill as an alternative to the compulsory Kozminski University end of English course exam. Introducing Linguaskill enabled the university to check their students’ English proficiency and helped students to prove their skills with an internationally recognised test.

A flexible and online test

As Linguaskill doesn’t have any set dates or venues, Kozminski University was able to choose a preferred date to run the test session. All students need is a computer, an internet connection, a microphone and headphones. This helped the university to save time and money as they did not have to arrange any venues or buy expensive equipment. The test was delivered on the Cambridge English Test Portal and any technical support was provided by the Linguaskill Agent who prepared and administered the Linguaskill test session.

The test was effectively invigilated using remote proctoring and students were required to register their identity using their ID. The video recorded during the exam helps to identify any suspicious activity or behaviour such as using unauthorised materials or navigating to other websites while taking the test.

Fast results and positive feedback

Students’ feedback was very positive. They found the online proctored test easily accessible and straightforward to take as they were able to take the test from home, in Poland or another country. Individual Test Reports for the Reading and Listening parts were available instantly, giving students immediate insight into their ability and areas for potential improvement, providing a detailed understanding of performance for each language skill.

Understanding students’ strengths and weaknesses

Kozminski University educates managers and business leaders, prompting them to pursue their careers independently, constantly developing their skills. With fast and accurate test results, the university was able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of every student. It also helped to measure the progress of students finishing their compulsory English course. The results are aligned to the internationally recognised Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which helped identify specific language areas for improvement. With their final university English exam results proved by an internationally recognised test, students were able to immediately share their success and add value to their CVs, to attract future employers and stand out from the crowd.

Choosing Linguaskill enabled the university to meet their students’ needs by providing them with an easily accessible language test available on demand and across all the English proficiency levels. The university considered Linguaskill a great success and has decided to adopt it as an option, offering students an internationally recognised English test for their end of compulsory English course at the university in the future.
