What information is available below?

Timeline for results delivery with breakdown of the information to expect on the Statement of Results and certificate and how to interpret it.

When will I receive my Statement of Results?

  • Digital exam results are available 5–10 working days after the exam session
  • Paper-based exam results are normally available 4–6 weeks after the exam session

The Confirmation of Entry document you receive from your centre states the final date by which results will be available.

Can I get my results online?

Yes, the fastest way for you to get exam results is to sign up for our free Online Results Service. Your exam centre supplies the information needed to register for this service.

How can institutions verify results?

Employers, universities or other organisations can check results online. Candidates need to send them their reference number, which can be found on their certificate or Statement of Results, and their date of birth. Admissions officers and employers can check results quickly, easily and securely online at www.cambridgeenglish.org/verifiers.

Alternatively, share results securely with the organisation via the Results Service for Candidates.

A2 Key to C2 Proficiency results are reported on the Cambridge English Scale

Candidates receive a separate score for each skill, giving a clear understanding of performance. The average of these results gives an overall result for the exam. A grade and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level are also provided.

Scale scores for each exam

A2 Key

Depending on which university, college or organisation you are applying to, they may ask for a specific score or grade, either overall or for a particular skill. For A2 Key for Schools and A2 Key, the following scores are used to report results:

140–150 A B1
133–139 B A2
120–132 C A2
100–119 Level A1 A1

The exam is targeted at Level A2 of the CEFR. The exam also provides reliable assessment at the level above A2 (Level B1) and the level below (Level A1).

Scores between 80 and 99 are also reported for A2 Key for Schools and A2 Key. Candidates will not receive a certificate, but a Cambridge English Scale score will be shown on the Statement of Results.

B1 Preliminary

For B1 Preliminary for Schools and B1 Preliminary, the following scores are used to report results:

160–170 A B2
153–159 B B1
140–152 C B1
120–139 Level A2 A2

The exam is targeted at Level B1 of the CEFR. The exam also provides reliable assessment at the level above B1 (Level B2) and the level below (Level A2).

Scores between 102 and 119 are also reported for B1 Preliminary for Schools and B1 Preliminary. Candidates will not receive a certificate, but a Cambridge English Scale score will be shown on the Statement of Results.

For C2 Proficiency, the following scores are used to report results:

Scores between 162 and 179 are also reported for C2 Proficiency. Candidates will not receive a certificate, but a Cambridge English Scale score will be shown on the Statement of Results.

Looking for results for young learners (Pre A1 to A2)?

There is no pass or fail for young learner exams. All children receive a certificate, with achievement in each skill represented by a number of shields.

Other FAQs

When will I receive my certificate?

For digital exams, paper certificates are usually sent to the exam centre within 3–4 weeks. For paper-based exams, paper certificates are usually sent to the exam centre 7–10 weeks after the exam date. Please contact your centre if you need to know the specific date.

How long is my certificate valid for?

Your Cambridge English certificate does not expire. Recognising organisations such as universities, colleges and employers can choose how long to accept results for, so make sure you always check their requirements.
