Helping English language teachers adapt to the changing education landscape

02/09/2020

Experts from Cambridge have teamed up to help English language teachers adapt to the changing education landscape as a result of Covid-19. Cambridge Assessment English and Cambridge University Press ELT are hosting a free event for teachers around the world to help them get ready for the unpredictable months ahead.

The Cambridge Live Experience on September 8, 9 and 10 will bring together some of the world’s leading English language teaching and exam experts for talks on a range of themes including advice on transitioning back to the physical classroom, online learning, socially distanced teaching, understanding learners’ levels and providing emotional support. The event will also include a series of sessions designed to support wellbeing ranging from cooking lessons to a mindfulness session.

Francesca Woodward, Chief Executive of Cambridge Assessment English, said:
‘Teachers are faced with a unique set of challenges in light of what is proving to be a really difficult year. Overnight they had to find new ways of teaching with many switching to the online environment, and it’s been really inspiring how teachers all over the world coped and bounced back. We’re hosting this event with Cambridge University Press to reach out to teachers and help them get ready for the unpredictable months ahead. Many will find their roles changing with the need to combine online teaching with the physical classroom and it’s essential teachers overcome these challenges to ensure education doesn’t stop. The event will be a great chance to share ideas and practical tips from around the world that can be taken back into the teaching environment’.

Paul Colbert, Managing Director of Cambridge University Press ELT, said:
‘Over recent months we’ve experienced the power of community in supporting our teachers and learners to adapt to change. The Cambridge Live Experience provides a forum for mutual support. It’s a chance to hear from exams and learning experts, but also to connect with other teachers who are experiencing similar challenges. We’re excited to bring together colleagues, speakers and teachers from around the world to focus on how we can collectively and individually take this next important step in the education journey.’

The three-day event is open to teachers all over the world and will include more than 25 sessions showcasing teaching approaches and ideas from experts from Cambridge Assessment English and Cambridge University Press.
