A group of newly qualified English teachers in Oman have successfully completed a 15-month skills-based training programme backed by the Ministry of Higher Education.
The Cambridge Teacher Training Programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education in Oman and aims to give young Omani English teachers the confidence and skills they need to play their part in increasing education standards in the country. Cambridge Assessment English worked closely with Polyglot Institute in Oman to deliver the training, which involved the teachers taking a range of Cambridge English exams and teaching qualifications.
The first milestone in the programme was celebrated recently when 22 teachers were awarded their Cambridge English and IELTS certificates at the graduation ceremony, held at Polyglot Institute in Oman. The event was attended by Her Excellency, Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Director of Polyglot Institute, Sheikh Qassim Al Harthy, along with other distinguished guests and graduates.
Speaking at the event, Karen Ryan from Cambridge Assessment English said:
‘The successful graduates worked really hard in the first stage of this programme and they can now take new teaching and language skills back to their classrooms. We’re delighted to be working with Polyglot Institute to deliver such an important training programme that is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education. Teacher training remains a key challenge for schools worldwide, and through this programme the new graduates will improve their English language skills and learn new techniques and approaches for the classroom’.
The graduates who took part started with English language classes to help them develop their English skills up to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which is the internationally recognised standard of language ability. The trainees then took IELTS, four modules of the Cambridge English teaching qualification TKT, and the online CELTA course.
The Cambridge Teacher Training Programme will now continue with the next cohort of graduate trainees later in the year.
