Michael is a Senior Manager within Validation and Data Services. In addition to working on Cambridge Assessment English exams, he provides support for international projects in areas such as research design and implementation, quantitative data analysis, process design, training and survey sampling.
Current and recent projects include the revision of Malaysian schools examinations and the revision of MUET, a University entrance test also in Malaysia. Other exams-related projects he has worked on include assisting ICFES (Colombia) in aligning their tests to the CEFR whilst changing the measurement models they use and the Comunidad de Madrid (Spain) use of Cambridge Assessment English exams as part of the evaluation of their bilingual school programme. In the area of benchmarking, he was responsible for determining the sample of students selected in the Malaysian Progress Study, provided to the Malaysian Government to monitor the progress of their 5-year education plan. He also contributed to the implementation of the European Survey on Language Competences and the Study on Comparability of Language Testing in Europe, both for the European Commission.
Previously for Cambridge Assessment English, Michael had the responsibility for assisting a number of ALTE members with their quality assurance programmes, including data analysis and the development of procedures to make use of the results. Michael has an MA in Linguistics for Language Teaching from Lancaster University and a PhD in Language Assessment from the University of Bedfordshire. Before joining Cambridge Assessment English, he taught English as a Foreign Language as well as for Academic Purposes in the UK, Spain, Japan, Austria and France.
