Italian employees and learners can now take Linguaskill at authorised centres across the country. The first session took place in Pisa.
Most companies and institutions in Italy recognise English as an essential skill for work, study and career progression, but most employers and admission officers have been assessing candidates’ language skills only through interview, which does not give an adequate indication of the individual skills. Linguaskill aims to address this gap.
Administrative staff from the world famous Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa were the first group to take the test in Italy. The university, located in the historic city centre of Pisa, was founded in 1810 and is ranked amongst the 30 best universities in Europe. The employees prepared for the test during lockdown with the help of the staff of the British School Pisa Group.
The British School Pisa Group has been recognised as a Cambridge Assessment English centre since 1990 and was awarded Platinum Centre Status in 2015. John Ayers, who has owned and run the school since 1986 said:
“in response to the government-imposed Covid-19 lockdown, our school quickly adapted to become a virtual school to ensure continuity for our learners. The Scuola Normale Superiore needed a multilevel test that indicates what the candidate’s level is and that helps us to give advice on the best learning or career path. Linguaskill does exactly this”.
Anna Capra, Linguaskill Coordinator for Italy, said:
“this test is an innovation in the admission and employment landscape in Italy, but it has the potential to be a game changer since it allows users to test large groups of candidates all in one go. Linguaskill works really well in this respect as it returns accurate results very quickly. Employers and admission officers will be able to use the test in their decision-making process.”
Linguaskill is now offered by seven authorised centres in Italy.
