Making sure international students have the in-depth English language skills for success at university is a key priority for UK Higher Education Institutions. UK universities accept C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency including big names like Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Manchester and Kings College London. C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency are the only English language exams eligible for UCAS tariff points, students applying to UK universities can gain UCAS Tariff points towards their application and improve their chances of being accepted by their chosen UK university.
With monthly test dates at exam centres around the world, C1 Advanced has become one of the best known and highly regarded advanced English language qualifications for international travel, work and study. Preparing for the qualification helps learners develop the skills to make the most of studying, working and living in English-speaking countries.
C1 Advanced is targeted at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Successful C1 Advanced students have the English language skills to follow an academic course at university level, and to communicate effectively in professional and managerial contexts. They can express themselves with a high degree of fluency, and are therefore able to participate with confidence in meetings, tutorials or seminars.
C1 Advanced is already recognised by every university in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, with recognition growing in Canada and the US. In the UK and Ireland 100% of universities accept C1 Advanced from EU students. The majority also accept the exam from students from outside of the EU. Students can use Cambridge English exams as part of their student visa application, if they are going to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level at a higher education institution that is a Tier 4 Sponsor. UK recognition based on a list of Universities UK members, correct as of July 2017.
C1 Advanced is also widely accepted by businesses and government departments worldwide, including the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection for a range of visa programmes, the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS), and for recruitment by top international companies such as Adidas, BP, Ernst & Young, Hewlett-Packard, Johnson & Johnson and Microsoft.
